Here are the new B-6 adjusted rules:
RULES
Some coaches noted that Rules we agreed to modify pre-season are not changed on the website. I alerted John & Jim. The most important modifications are:
1. Zone Defense
Coaches may choose Zone and/or Man
May I suggest not require: If you see an opponent?s line up unavoidably weak at ball handling (illness, lack of players) and it is obvious that the quarter will be all steals, lay ups and chases, drop to the free throw line, allow play and teach zone fundamentals. Relentless steals from vulnerable boys out front humiliates kids and families most. Jim and I have fielded numerous parent concerns. I spoke to many families and convinced them to resign in 09. Few boys can shoot a high percentage beyond the line or arc.
2. Pressing
We will allow limited pressing in 09/10.
Pressing is allowed in the last 2 minutes of each half.
But no pressing is allowed by a team with a lead of 10 or more.
Once the rebound is in possession of the defense, the offense must retreat to defense.
I will ensure with officials that these rules are enforced. Possession changes and scores will not be allowed on violations.
3. Equal Play Time
This is fundamental rule in town. Realistically, on few weekends will 10 players show. I echo Steve?s sentiments that subbing, used properly, is an excellent means to achieve balanced, instructional and fun play.
4. Standings
There are no standings in 09/10. Tournament brackets will be set by random choice. Therefore, all emphasis is on teaching the boys, having fun and experimenting with offensive and defensive strategies ? helping each player, at whatever level, to be a little better than before the year started.
Please take advantage and contribute observation to this Coaches? forum as helpful.
